Dermaplane facial aftercare: exact do’s & don’ts for the first week

By ADENOSINE ESTHETICS LLC | September 12, 2026

If you only follow one rule after your Dermaplane Package of 3, make it this: keep your skin calm and protected. That means SPF every morning, no heavy sweating for 24 to 48 hours, and no retinoids or acids for 48 to 72 hours. Dermaplaning is low-downtime, but Nashville sun and humidity can undo a fresh glow fast if you get careless on day one.

Dermaplane facial aftercare do's and don'ts for the first week

I’m Lanika, and I run ADENOSINE ESTHETICS LLC here in Donelson, right by the airport. Dermaplaning is a quick add-on (20 minutes) that I book with a facial, and it’s one of my favorite ways to get you that smooth, makeup-glides-on feeling without a long recovery. And yes, I’m going to be specific about aftercare, because clients tell me the education piece is what finally helps them stop guessing and start seeing steady results.

First 24 to 48 hours after dermaplaning: keep it cool, clean, and makeup-light

Right after a dermaplane facial, your skin is freshly smoothed and it tends to absorb products faster. That’s a good thing, as long as what you put on is gentle. It’s also the window where heat, sweat, and sun usually cause the most “why am I red?” moments.

24-hour non-negotiables: Skip hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, pools, and heavy workouts that have you sweating. If you’re heading out into Nashville sun, wear SPF 30+ and reapply.

Do this the day of (and the day after)

  • Cleanse with a gentle, non-scrubby cleanser using lukewarm water. Pat dry.
  • Use simple hydration: a hyaluronic acid serum, a bland moisturizer, and SPF in the morning.
  • Keep hands off your face. No picking at “little flakes.”
  • If you have to wear makeup, keep it light and breathable. If you can skip it, even better. A lot of my clients end up doing exactly that because their skin looks that fresh.

Avoid this for 24 to 48 hours

  • Hot yoga, long runs in the heat, or anything that causes heavy sweating (humidity counts, Donelson).
  • Chlorine and saltwater. Give your skin a beat before you jump in.
  • Scrubs, cleansing brushes, or “polishing” tools at home.

Days 2 to 7: when to bring back retinol, acids, and exfoliation

If your skin feels baby-smooth after dermaplaning, it’s tempting to throw every active you own at it. Don’t. The goal this week is to keep your barrier happy so the glow lasts. I see the best “still glowing” results when you take the 48 to 72 hour break from actives seriously.

48 to 72 hours: Skip retinoids, AHAs/BHAs (like glycolic or salicylic), chemical peels, and any aggressive exfoliation.

Stick with gentle cleanser, hydration, moisturizer, and SPF. If you feel tight or dry, add more moisturizer, not more actives.

A simple timeline that works for most people

  • Day 1: Gentle cleanse, hydrate, moisturize, SPF. Keep it cool. Minimal or no makeup.
  • Days 2 to 3: Same routine. No retinol, no glycolic acid, no scrubs.
  • Days 4 to 7: If your skin is calm, you can usually reintroduce actives slowly. Start with one active on one night, then see how you do.

And if you’re doing outdoor time in Nashville, plan on reapplying SPF. Sun exposure is the fastest way to bring back dullness, especially when your skin is more UV-sensitive right after dermaplaning.

Products that protect your dermaplane results (and stop the guessing)

If you’ve ever bought products by “vibes” and hoped for the best, you’re not alone. I spend a lot of time in the room helping you understand your real skin type, because that’s what keeps you from wasting money and irritating your face.

My go-to aftercare lineup for week one

  • Gentle cleanser: No exfoliating beads, no strong fragrance, no “squeaky clean” finish.
  • Hydrating serum: Hyaluronic acid is a solid choice for most skin types.
  • Moisturizer: Go for comfort and barrier support, especially if you feel a little dry after.
  • SPF 30+: Every morning. Reapply if you’re outdoors, driving a lot, or near windows.

Travel tip for Donelson and airport runs: Keep a small SPF in your bag and blot sweat instead of rubbing your face. Humidity plus friction can trigger irritation fast.

Spacing your Dermaplane Package of 3: why 3 to 4 weeks is the sweet spot

Dermaplaning results often look immediate, but consistency is what keeps skin looking even and smooth. In my Dermaplane Package of 3, I generally recommend spacing sessions about 3 to 4 weeks apart. That timing works with your natural skin cycle and gives your barrier time to stay strong between visits.

If you’re aiming for a steady glow, plan your at-home routine to support it instead of constantly switching products. A lot of my regulars treat their facial schedule like a monthly requirement, especially when they’re focused on sun-related dullness or visible uneven tone.

What’s normal after a dermaplane facial, and when I want you to reach out

Mild redness, a little sensitivity, and that “my products sink in faster” feeling are all common in the first day or two. What I don’t want you doing is pushing through something that feels wrong. If you notice increasing warmth, spreading redness, pain, or anything that looks like infection, reach out right away so I can guide you.

“10/10 experience. You can tell that Lanika is extremely passionate about skin care. She took time to educate me about skin care, and she walked me through what to do at home.”

one of our regulars

I’m easy to talk to, and I take your skin seriously. I support clients all over Donelson, Hermitage, Madison, Inglewood, Old Hickory, and greater Nashville, especially people searching “facials near me” because they want a consistent place that actually explains what’s happening. If you’re also looking for waxing near me, waxing, bikini wax, or brazilian waxing near me, let me know and we’ll plan it around your facial schedule so your skin stays calm.

Quick next step: If you’re building a routine that includes dermaplaning, peels, microdermabrasion, acne facials near me searches, or anti ageing facials near me goals, I’ll help you map out what to do now and what to save for later.
