Get answers to common questions about Ear Candling.
Ear candling is not appropriate for everyone. It may pose risks for those with perforated eardrums, ear infections, or recent surgery. Consult your healthcare provider before treatment; our technicians perform a thorough intake and will recommend alternatives if candling isn’t safe.
During treatment a hollow candle is gently placed at the ear opening and lit at the far end. Heat creates a slight draft that proponents say draws wax and debris out; clinical evidence is limited, and effects can vary by individual.
Some clients notice immediate relief or clearer hearing, often due to removal of superficial wax. However, results aren't guaranteed and deeper blockages may require medical removal. If symptoms persist or worsen, seek evaluation by a physician to rule out underlying conditions.
Possible side effects include burns, candle wax residue, ear irritation, or ear canal blockage. Risk increases with improper technique. We follow strict safety protocols and screen clients to minimize risk; contact your provider if you have prior ear issues.
A standard session generally lasts 20 to 40 minutes, including intake, positioning, candling for both ears, and post-treatment cleanup. Timing varies with client needs and whether additional soothing techniques are included. Your technician will explain duration during booking.
Aftercare is simple: avoid water in the ear for 24 hours, gently clean outer ear with a soft cloth, and monitor for irritation or discomfort. If you experience pain, discharge, or hearing changes, contact our spa or your healthcare provider promptly.
